The Japanese manufacturer has just released the new generation of its most popular SUV. The new model looks nicer in many ways, starting from the new styling, new cabin design and new tech features. However, many of the mechanical parts carried over from the previous generation, which is why some believe that Honda could mix up things a bit and offer a performance version, to attract more customers. According to some sources, the Japanese manufacturer is working on the 2024 Honda CR-V Type R, which would, allegedly, arrive already in the second half of 2023.
It’s hard to say whether this is happening or not but if the company is really up to something like this, we are pretty sure we know what to expect from it. Of course, the engine upgrade is the first thing that comes to mind, but we would also expect to see further upgrades regarding suspension setup, new brakes, as well as a lot of exclusive styling details. 2024 Honda CR-V Type R Engine
Without any doubt, this would be one of the main upgrades in the 2024 Honda CR-V Type R. The base model comes with, once problematic but now pretty reliable, 1.5-liter turbo-four that puts out 190 horsepower. While it’s generally a pretty decent performance, it’s not as capable as some rival units
Fortunately for Honda engineers, the CR-V shares the platform with the Civic, which has been famous for its legendary Type R iteration. So, we could easily see the same engine. We are talking about the turbocharged version of the iconic K20 engine. In the new hot hatch, it puts out around 320 horsepower but some sources speculate about a version that would offer around 350 horsepower in this case.
What’s also interesting about the 2024 Honda CR-V Type R is that it would come with a 6-speed manual. Honda’s legendary stick would be found inside the cabin, while some sources suggest it would come coupled with an all-wheel-drive system, which would include a limited-slip differential.

Along with chassis reinforcements, this version would also come with a new, stiffer suspension setup, which would include not just new components, but also a lower ground clearance, which would make this SUV more agile in corners. Of course, we would also count on bigger brakes, while we already mentioned a limited-slip differential.
Naturally, bigger wheels with lower-profile tires are another thing to expect, which would bring benefits both in terms of performance and aesthetics. Speaking of aesthetics, this version would come with all kinds of upgrades that accentuate the high-performing nature of this SUV. We count on a completely new body kit, with more aggressive bumpers, a roof spoiler, new exhaust pipes, a rear diffuser and many more. Things like exclusive color options are also possible, as well as upgraded headlights, grille etc.
Interior
Naturally, we expect to see a couple of interior upgrades as well. Once again, a lot of inspiration would be taken from from the new Civic Type R. For example, we would expect to see a similarly designed instrument cluster, while Type R’s recognizable red interior color scheme also seems like a certain thing. Furthermore, we would count on new seats, similar to those in the hot hatch, which are some of the best seats in the automotive industry. Considering that the performance SUV is expected to come with a manual transmission, the recognizable shifter is another thing we count on.
On the other hand, the overall cabin layout wouldn’t change. Although a performance vehicle, the 2024 Honda CR-V Type R would still remain a spacious and practical SUV. This includes a couple of very spacious and comfortable rows of seats, along with one of the largest cargo areas in the segment. Naturally, we also expect to see a lot of standard equipment, which would include all kinds of tech goodies.

The 2024 Honda CR-V Type R is still just a rumor that waits for official confirmation. At this point, we won’t estimate the actual chances to see this model on the road but if the company is willing to launch such a model, we presume it could arrive already in the second half of the next year. We estimate that the price would go around 50-55.000 dollars.
