With the all-new Toyota Grand Highlander coming, we are already imagining what would be Honda’s response to the stretched version of the well-known rival. While the officials are still quiet, internet enthusiasts already came up with their ideas for the new, stretched Pilot, which would be offered in the near future. For now, we will call it the 2024 Honda Grand Pilot, even though we are pretty sure it would feature a different moniker once it enters production.
As mentioned, the officials are still quiet about this model but if it eventually arrives, we are pretty sure we can predict some of its key design features. Of course, it would be based on the Pilot, but with the stretched wheelbase and more spacious interior. However, the bigger size wouldn’t be the only upgrade. We also count on a new, more capable powertrain, along with a few other tweaks.
The 2024 Honda Grand Pilot could arrive already in the next year.
2024 Honda Grand Pilot Design
So, the 2024 Honda Grand Pilot would come as a bigger and upgraded version of the Pilot. The mechanical aspect of the vehicle would probably remain the same, including the chassis and suspension setup. On the other hand, the key difference would be in bigger dimensions.
If you compare the recently redesigned Pilot with the new Grand Highlander, the overall size doesn’t seem significantly different. Both models feature around 200 inches of total length, but the Grand Highlander features a significantly longer wheelbase, around 119.1 inches. For comparison, the new Pilot is good for about 113.8 inches, so we presume that the new iteration would bring notable improvement in this aspect, while the total length would be increased as well, which would all result in more interior space, both for the passenger and cargo.
On the other hand, we don’t believe there could be more significant styling changes. The new generation has just arrived, so we presume that the Grand Pilot would feature the same front-end design, but with a slightly different rear-end layout, due to the longer size and different overall dimensions.
Of course, the biggest benefit of a vehicle like this would be the additional passenger space. The standard Pilot is already pretty good in this aspect and can accommodate up to 8 passengers. Still, with the much longer wheelbase, it would be able to offer more room and a more natural seating position in the third row, while the first two rows could also benefit. The cargo area is already pretty generous in the standard Pilot, so things could only get better in the new model.
As for the dashboard design and interior aesthetics, we don’t expect to see bigger surprises. The 2024 Honda Grand Pilot would come with the same dash design, which characterizes pretty much the whole new lineup, with a combination of clean design with lots of horizontal lines, and a full load of tech features. As we are talking about the future flagship model, we presume that the list of standard equipment would be longer than in the standard Pilot.
2024 Honda Grand Pilot Engine
Another very possible upgrade would be the new powertrain. Namely, the standard Pilot comes with a smooth and refined 3.5-liter V6, which is good for about 285 horsepower. While that’s enough to move this large SUV conveniently, don’t forget that the upcoming Grand Highlander will come with a more capable powertrain, with a hybrid system that’s about to feature over 360 horsepower. That’s why we think the Grand Pilot deserves something more capable.
Some sources speculate about a new hybrid powertrain but we see the 3.0-liter turbo V6 as a far more likely option. That model would come with a max output of 355 horsepower, which would put this SUV on par with the new SUV from Toyota for sure. Some sources even speculate about the addition of the SH-AWD system with torque vectoring.
2024 Honda Grand Pilot Release Date and Price
The 2024 Honda Grand Pilot is just a rumor for now and we are still eagerly waiting to hear something from the officials. As for the price, we estimate that base versions would cost around 45.000 dollars.
