The first renderings of the upcoming 2022 Honda HR-V are available. According to them, the next-generation is inspired by the popular Honda Insight sedan. Interestingly, the new HR-V hosts almost identical front fascia, LED headlights, grille, LED taillights, and wheel patterns. It even tosses a Toyota-inspired black roof, giving this SUV a sportier look.
Under the hood, it might also use the same hybrid system that Insight has. However, if that happens, basically, HR-V will be powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and electric motors producing 151 hp, which is around ten hp more than the current HR-V.
Will Upcoming 2022 Honda HR-V Have Upgraded Design?
The rendering 2022 Honda HR-V clearly takes inspiration from the Honda Insight. At first glance, the forthcoming HR-V has the same front fascia including LED headlights, bolder grille, and LED taillights. Also, the same 17-inch alloys wheel pattern is present and from what we heard, the manufacturer might present bigger wheels on the upper trims. Design is destructive and we like Toyota-inspired black roof giving an additional sporty dose.
Moreover, sport trim will offer more matte-black inserts, underbody spoilers in Gloss Black, plus roof rails. However, Touring trim features Gloss Shark Gray inserts wheels and a better cabin.
Cabin Will Be More Spacious
The new 2022 Honda HR-V has many benefits inside. One of the highlights is the largest and most spacious cabin in its class. Generally, we think that the new model will continue to be offered with the same layouts. It provides maximum cargo space of 58.8 cubic feet. Thanks to that, the rear legroom is better than in the Mazda CX-3 and Jeep Renegade. However, Honda HR-V has one disadvantage, a slightly sloping roof that will affect the headroom.
The current base LX model offers an excellent package of features for invested money. Basically, one can found cruise control, Honda’s Bluetooth HandsFreeLink system, AM/FM radio, CD player, and a 5-inch infotainment screen. Upper trim levels add a 7-inch infotainment touch screen with smartphone integration, automatic climate control, heated front seats, power moonroof, and more.
2022 Honda HR-V Powertrain Specs
There is no official information regarding the powertrain specs under the 2022 Honda HR-V. From what we hear, the next-generation SUV will most likely borrow the hybrid system from the Insight model. That means it could use a 1.5-liter gas engine and electric motors. This combination produces 151 hp. However, many speculations circuit around that US may never receive the turbocharged HR-V.
If you didn’t know, HR-V for US market uses until now a 1.8-liter four-cylinder producing 141 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque. Overall, the current Insight with the same system delivers 55 mpg in the city and 49 mpg on the highway. In addition, because HR-V is SUV and is heavier, we don’t think that results will be the same.
Release Date and Price
The release date of 2022 Honda HR-V might happen sometime next year as 2022MY. However, we are still waiting for more official information. If renderings happen, the next-gen HR-V will be a handsome SUV. Pricing is still early to predict, but we think anything bellow $25,000 will be accepted for such SUV.
