The upcoming 2021 Honda Clarity is the sedan that looks very different from the other Honda members. This family car is showcasing the new cutting-edge propulsion technology.
However, best of all, it will be available in two versions. One can choose eider the model with a plug-in hybrid or hydrogen fuel cell. The plug-in-hybrid Clarity offers up to 48 miles of electric-only driving, which should be enough for some of the daily jobs. According to the manufacturer, you’ll need 2.5 hours to recharge the Clarity plug-in’s batteries via a 240-volt source. However, the next one will be the hydrogen fuel-cell model providing for up to 360 miles of driving mileage.
2021 Honda Clarity Exterior
Looking at the new 2021 Honda Clarity, you’ll realize that this model is sharing plenty of similarities with models like the Honda Accord and the Acura NSX. The body of the Clarity looks better and it follows the structure of the famous Accord.
Changes on the front are minimal and the Honda Clarity features beautiful LED highlights similar that we saw on the NSX. Moreover, other visible updates include 18-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires, Body-Colored Decklid Spoiler, LED Taillights, Fin-Type Roof-Mounted Antenna, and so on.
Interior iIs Utterly Comfortable
The cabin of the 2021 Honda Clarity cabin is excelent looking. This sedan comes with a significant roomy interior offering very comfortable seats that can accommodate large adults. Compared to a Honda Accord, Clarity has a significantly shorter wheelbase. That difference can be felt on the back seat, with four inches less legroom. From the information that we got, the trunk capacity of the new sedan is 16 cubic feet in the plug-in-hybrid model or 12 cubic feet in the fuel-cell car.
In terms of technology, Clarity offers a very rich package of standard equipment. This sedan includes new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capability, two USB ports, and more. Moreover, going for the Touring version that is the most expensive trim, it adds factory navigation and eight-speaker setup. However, going for the fuel-cell model, buyers will get a 12-speaker audio system and more equipment.
Every Clarity model comes standardly with a suite of driver-assistance technologies, along with the Honda LaneWatch system. Thanks to that, the new model offers automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and also an adaptive cruise control.
2021 Honda Clarity Powertrain Options
As we wrote at the beginning, the upcoming model 2021 Honda Clarity will be offered with two different powertrains. The first model will use a plug-in hybrid system that offers up to 48 miles of electric-only driving. The plug-in hybrid will also use a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that will work in combination with a 17.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Thanks to that, this unit delivers a total output of 212 horsepower and scoots to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds.
The next one hydrogen-powered. It uses a 174-hp electric motor that draws electricity from a fuel cell. Unlike the plug-in hybrid, the hydrogen unit can hit 60 mph in 8.1 seconds.
Release Date and Price
From the latest Honda statement, the forthcoming 2021 Clarity sedan will arrive at the beginning of the next year. Pricing is not yet officially revealed, but from many gossips, the base plug-in hybrid will start at $35,000, while the top range Touring cost $38,000. As for the hydrogen-powered model, Honda recently revealed that there are 40 hydrogen fueling stations across California. In addition, this model should cost around $60,000.
