The upcoming 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback has been spied again, featuring a more cleaner design than the previous generation. Honda recently stated that alongside this model, we could also expect Civic sedan, Si, and Type R models. Thankfully, the hatchback version won’t have as many sharp angles and vents as last year’s spied sedan model.
Interestingly, the new Civic will borrow plenty of design cues from the Honda Accord. First of all, it features almost identical black trim and the stylish 19-inch wheels that will most likely be part of the higher-performance Si model. Sources tell us that Civic hatchbacks will be built in the U.S., and it should arrive shortly after the sedan debut in the summer.
2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Exterior
The 11th-generation 2022 Honda Civic hatchback model should look considerably better than the outgoing model. The spy photos don’t reveal much, but as we can see, the prototype model features a more mature appearance. In fact, the design is attractive, and most of its body parts look similar to the Honda Accord. While the caught model is still heavily disguised, we managed to see slimmer LED headlights and a more aggressive grille with a honeycomb mesh insert. Interestingly, below the grille, the Honda added a wide air intake with horizontal bars.
Generally, the most significant changes occur A-pillar as the model features less flamboyant bodywork. However, the back of this hatchback features a small diffuser and new LED taillights with a Dodge Charger vibe.
Interior Upgrades
Spy photographers haven’t managed to capture the new 2022 Honda Civic hatchback inside. However, Honda recently released a teaser image of the Civic concept, suggests the model will have a minimalist change over its predecessor. Also, on the teaser image, we can see a modern cabin with a slim dashboard that features a free-standing 9-inch infotainment screen.
Like the sedan variant, the shorter version will also have a digital gauge cluster and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.
2022 Honda Civic Hatchback Engine Specs
At this point, Honda didn’t reveal any details regarding the powertrains of the upcoming Civic Hatchback. As we heard, it will most likely have better engine performance and improved handling over the previous generation.
Generally, we can expect a turbocharged four-cylinder under its hood, front-wheel drive, and a continuously variable automatic transmission. The high-performance Type R model will be available as well. Basically, we think it’ll use an updated 2.0-liter four-cylinder, delivering more power and a choice of a manual transmission.
Release Date and Price
The test mule of the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback reveals many upgrades compared to its predecessor. Basically, it features an almost identical styling as the latest Honda Accord. However, because the new hatchback is still in the developed stage, we cannot wait to see a final product.
Honda will most likely fully reveal the hatchback version before the initial release of the sedan model happen in summer. Additionally, the hatchback will be built in the U.S. and is expected to start just under $24,000.
