2023 Honda Pilot Prototype Spied with More Rugged Design

The much more bolder Honda Pilot has just been spotted testing. Judging from the new spy shots, the upcoming 2023 Honda Pilot features a more rugged design than the outgoing one.

It looks refreshed, and thanks to many soft lines, the new SUV is proportionally like the minivan. From the latest report, the new Pilot will use the same powertrain as the Acura MDX. Power should come from a potent 3.5-liter V-6 that can generate 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. The redesigned SUV, which represents the fourth generation, will arrive sometime next year as a 2023 model.

2023 Honda Pilot First Look

The testing mule of the 2023 Honda Pilot doesn’t reveal too much at all. Overall, the design is refreshed but considering that it is covered with a camo, we cannot see all its updates. At first glance, the upcoming Honda Pilot will come with a more rugged design than the current Pilot.

Moreover, as we mentioned, Pilot will underpinnings the same platform from the Acura MDX. That means it will change dimensionally. The Acura MDX is featuring an extra 2.8 inches of length in its wheelbase, and it’s more than likely that the redesigned Pilot’s wheelbase could grow as well. The front fascia looks refreshed and as we can see, the new Pilot should come with revised grille and the new shaped LED headlights.

Interior Rumors

As the most important Honda member, the new Pilot will also receive a more comfortable cabin. Thanks primarily to the new platform that also underpinnings the Acura MDX model, the new Pilot has much more to offer. First of all, the Pilot has more room than a Toyota Highlander, but slightly less than the Volkswagen Atlas. Like the previous SUV, the new one will be available in the same trim levels. The entry-level LX trim is pretty basic, featuring cloth-covered seats, moonroof, powered tailgate, power-adjustable front-passenger seat, an acoustic windshield, universal garage-door opener.

Leather upholstery is available on the EX-L trim, providing a more upscale feel. Moreover, the Touring trim is one of the most equipped, hosting heated captain’s chairs for the second row, a 590-watt premium audio system, front/rear parking sensors, blue ambient interior lighting, and Wi-Fi. Lastly, the Elite adds a panoramic roof, ventilated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, and a heated steering wheel. The Black Edition is available as well, and it comes with extra cosmetic additions.

2023 Honda Pilot Engine Specs

The fourth-generation 2023 Honda Pilot should once again use the same proven engine that can also be found under the famous Acura MDX hood. The new SUV draws power from a 3.5-liter V-6, delivering 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque.

This engine comes with a new 10-speed automatic using front wheels as standard, and all-wheel drive is optional. Besides this engine, Honda will most likely introduce the new plug-in hybrid option that we can expect at some point.

Release Date and Price

The new 2023 Honda Pilot was spotted testing yesterday, featuring more refreshments than the outgoing model. Generally, it’s nowhere near as popular as the CR-V model, the Pilot is still important for Honda manufacturer. Even with the Covid-19 restrictions, Honda managed to sell over 123,813 Pilots in the United States. Notably, a redesigned Pilot is on the way to break that numbers.

However, we can expect the new version to debut next year as a 2022 model. As for the price, Honda didn’t mention any figures, but for sure, the new Pilot will cost slightly higher than before. The current Pilot starts at $32,000 for the basic model, while the Black Edition tops out at $51,000.
