The new 2023 Acura MDX Hybrid is an upcoming SUV that will offer sharp styling, a surprisingly elegant chassis, and a high-tech cabin. According to the manufacturer, the next-generation model will bring lots of new goodies. This SUV looks handsome, and it uses many styling cues from the compact RDX SUV and TLX models.
As for the powertrain, the new MDX base variant uses a 3.5-liter V-6 unit producing 290 horsepower hooked to a 10-speed automatic. The performance-oriented Type S model is also available and powered by a turbocharged 355-hp 3.0-liter V-6 and standard all-wheel drive. However, the hybrid model will reportedly deploy a 3.0-liter V-6 powertrain that produces 257-hp.
2023 Acura MDX Exterior
The new-generation 2023 Acura MDX comes with changed proportions. Unlike the 2020-year model, the new one is 2.2 inches longer, with a wheelbase grown by 2.8 inches. These increases will translate most on the inside. According to Acura, the exterior design of the MDX was inspired by the wind-shaped rocks of Arizona’s Antelope Canyon.
The MDX features Acura’s Diamond Pentagon grille, 4-element LED headlights, and a front fascia with 3-element LED fog lamps. In general, everything that you can see on this SUV is cleverly made. You can get even more with sporty A-Spec models. This variant has a more sporty black grille, black trim, plus A-Spec badges and 20-inch Shark Gray wheels. As for colors, the A-Spec comes exclusively with Apex Pearl Blue paint. Still, five other colors are available, including Liquid Carbon Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Majestic Black Pearl, Performance Red Pearl, and Lunar Silver Metallic.
Interior Equipment
The cabin of the new 2023 Acura MDX is far more premium than the last model’s interior. However, like before, the three-row SUV will offer a very roomy cabin that can fit seven people. Stepping in, you’ll find stitched leather on the dashboard and plenty of creature comforts.
As standard, this model includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel,12.3-inch infotainment screen, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and leather upholstery. Although the interior is nicely designed, but it doesn’t feel quite as posh as the Genesis GV80 or the Volvo XC90. The safety suite is much better thanks to a forward-collision warning, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, a lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor, and more.
Powertrain Specs
Under the hood, the 2023 Acura MDX is offered with the same 290-hp 3.5-liter V-6 as the outgoing model. However, the engine is now mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission instead of a nine-speed. The front-wheel-drive remains as standard, while all-wheel drive is available as an option. The sporty Type S model is more potent, and it draws power from a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that develops 355-hp. This unit comes standard with an all-wheel drive.
The Acura MDX is hybridized as well, and it uses a 3.0-liter V-6 powertrain that produces 257-hp. However, powering the front wheels is an electric motor located in the transmission housing delivering 47-horsepower. There are also two 36-horsepower electric motors sitting side by side between the rear wheels. A new lithium-ion battery powers all motors.
2023 Acura MDX Hybrid Release Date and Price
The release date of the 2023 Acura MDX Hybrid will happen next year. Besides attractive exterior design, the forthcoming model will also be more premium inside. Anyway, we expect the new model to cost slightly more than before.
The current Acura MDX equipped with standard features starts at $47,000, while the Type S model is $60,000. So, we hope that the hybrid will cost somewhere around $55,000.
