The all-new 2022 Honda HR-V Hybrid has been finally spied testing. This is our first look at the next generation, and we must admit it, the new Honda HR-V looks refreshed and more attractive than the outgoing model. The prototype that has been spotted in Europe is heavily camouflaged, and it shows a boxier shape and more modern LED headlights.
Perhaps the most exciting news is that it will come with a new hybrid system, similar to the one that powers Honda Insight sedan. Honda’s smallest SUV is likely to arrive in the U.S. at some point this year as a 2022 model.
2022 Honda HR-V Hybrid First Look
First of all, the new 2022 Honda HR-V Hybrid looks refreshed, and it will use the same underpinnings as the Honda Fit hatchback. The HR-V is the smallest SUV in the segment that hosts similar design language as the popular Honda Civic model.
It comes with an attractive design, featuring recognized Civic’s LED headlights. Unlike the many models in the class, this SUV has a rear hatch sloped sharply, resulting in “coupe” SUVs styling. However, as for dimension, it’s still hard to gauge it from these heavily camouflaged photos, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see the next generation to grow a little bit.
Cabin Layout
According to plenty of gossips, the new 2022 Honda HR-V Hybrid interior will be much better than the standard model. Basically, we can expect the cabin to host more comfort, nicer materials, and some of the latest technology. The layout will probably remain the same, but we don’t have information is there will be some scarface regarding interior space because of a battery placed under the floor.
Generally, we presume that hybrid model will come with the same 7-inch infotainment touch screen that is available optionally on the standard model. Also, smartphone integration, automatic climate control, heated front seats, power moonroof, and more are expected to come as the standard equipment.
Engine Specs
Officially, the new 2022 Honda HR-V will be available with few engine options. The first one that powers the base model is a proven Civics’ 2.0-liter inline-four producing around 158-hp. A turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four may also be available as the option, but we don’t have any information about its performance and economy right now.
2022 Honda HR-V Hybrid Details
Along with the engines above, the manufacturer will also introduce the new hybrid drivetrain for the first time. Interestingly, Honda unveiled that this unit will be similar to the one found in the Honda Insight. The current Insight uses a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor that draws current power from a lithium-ion battery. The whole system makes 151 horsepower. This energy goes to all wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
2022 Honda HR-V Release Date and Price
The release date of the 2022 Honda HR-V will happen sometime this year. Basically, from the information that we got, the global version will most likely debut before the U.S. model. When it eventually goes on sale, the base SUV will start at around $23,000. However, expect hybrid model to cost a couple of thousand dollars more.
