2022 Acura RLX Will Be the Last Generation Model

The rumors that Acura’s flagship RLX sedan will be discontinued in the U.S. are not settling down, at all. However, from many gossips, this model will once again try to conquer the sedan market. We recently got some information, and it seems that the last model will be postponed for the next year as the 2022 Acura RLX. As you probably know, many companies delayed their releases due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

However, we are not sure if this model will reach this time U.S shores, but many of us are hoping so. The upcoming RLX will be refreshed from what we heard, and it will continue its journey with a more attractive Acura’s diamond-pentagon grille. Also, it would be offered with the same engines as its predecessor.

2022 Acura RLX Exterior Refreshments

If you didn’t know, Acura has embraced a new design language on the recently introduced crossover SUVs RDX and MDX. Subjectively speaking, we can expect the same to happen with the upcoming 2022 Acura RLX. Generally, RLX is a flagship sedan that cannot be saddled with the aging look. So, expect many refreshments that should include revised front fascia with much attractive Acura’s diamond-pentagon grille.

Dimensionally, we think RLX will not change at all. This model will probably measure the same 198 inches. Compares to rivals like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, RLX is much longer.

Interior Layout

One of the best features of RLX is the interior. First of all, this sedan offers comfort and spaciousness, followed by great technology. Generally, the tradition will continue, and we can expect the same layout inside the new 2022 Acura RLX. The front seats are supportive, while the back seats offer generous 38.8 inches of legroom and 36.9 inches of headroom. Interestingly, going for the Sport Hybrid, the battery pack will reduced truck space from 14.9 cubic feet to just 12 cubic feet.

Overall, the interior design should remain pleasant, and we can expect the new model to feature same dual-screen infotainment system. However, according to some gossip, screens will be updated with much better resolution. Also, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa should finally be part of the standard equipment.

2022 Acura RLX Powertrain Specs

Like the outgoing model, the new 2022 Acura RLX will be powered by the same engine options. There should be precisely two powertrains in the offer. The base sedan still uses a refined 3.5-liter V6 delivering 310 horsepower. This unit sends power through front wheels, and it uses 10-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles.

The next powertrain is far more remarkable. It powers the RLX Sport Hybrid model, and it consists of a 3.5-liter V6 and two further electric motors. The whole system develops 377 horsepower and 341 lb-ft of torque combined. Unlike the regular model, the Hybrid uses a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission with shift paddles.

Release Date and Price

According to the latest news, the last generation Acura RLX will arrive next year as the 2022YM. Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Acura officials decided to postpone it for the following year. However, plenty of rumors suggest that after this model, RLX will be discounted in the U.S.

The current flagship starts at $54,900, and we think that the new one will not differ drastically. The RLX Sport Hybrid should be once more available, and this model costs $61,900.
