The next-gen Acura is getting a famous Type S performance treatment. However, the release date of the new 2022 Acura MDX Type S three-row crossover is scheduled for the next year due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
As you can probably know, if you are fun of Acura models, the Type S was caught testing in early 2019. However, until then, we didn’t hear any news about its release date. Overall, we collected some information and the Type S will deploy a modified 3.5-liter hybrid powertrain that could be connected to three electric motors.
2022 Acura MDX Type S Design
The long-awaited 2022 Acura MDX Type S will be finally available. As we mentioned, this model was spied testing and it`s wearing full camo. At first glance, the proportion of this model is the same as on the regular one. Generally, both models ride on the same platform and will share identical styling. However, Type S will bring something new and we can surely say sportier design.
For a start, the test mule is showing its grille and not much else. Also, as we can see, the manufacturer used the same design language as on the RDX. Acura’s diamond pentagon grille is still there and its flanked by the LED headlights and vertical air intakes. Definitively, fans and buyers should expect a more aggressive styling thanks to various blacked-out accents.
Interior Improvements
The upcoming 2022 Acura MDX Type S Acura will be sporty and modern inside. Unfortunately, the manufacturer didn’t reveal and information regarding the cabin. Of course, we can expect a more upscale cabin than on the regular one. Also, Type S could provide plenty of improvements in terms of techs.
The Acura goal is to make a more competitive and sportier design followed with better comfort. From what we heard, expect unique upholstery with contrast stitching and a new touchscreen system. Besides, the manufacturer will introduce more standard safety aids.
Safety
The AcuraWatch suite of standard active-safety and driver assists will be richer than before. The standard package includes forward-collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, auto high-beam headlights, and lane-departure warning.
2022 Acura MDX Type S Engine Specs
According to many speculations, the upcoming 2022 Acura MDX Type S will be powered by a hybrid drivetrain. The new Type S could use a modified 3.5-liter powertrain that would be connected to three electric motors. Thanks to this combination, this model will be able to produce 400-horsepower.
If you didn’t know, the regular MDX is available either with a 3.5-liter V6 or 3.0-liter in the Sport Hybrid model. Moreover, we can also expect Acura’s Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) and the torque-vectoring drive system. Both systems are available on the current MDX and upcoming TLX Type S.
Release Date and Price
The leaked information reveals that the 2022 Acura Type S is arriving next year as 2020YM. Also, many speculations are about the upcoming RDX Type S that is obviously on the way.
Moreover, both models should bring more improvements over regular ones. Pricing is not available yet, but we heard that Acura MDX Type S would most likely start at $60,000.
