The Japanese company announces that the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition will be available later this year. Just after presenting the slightly redesigned 2020MY, Honda will deliver the ‘ultimate track-focus Type R’ model.
The Limited Edition will be offered in 600 units in the United States, with an additional 100 for the European market. There will be numerous changes and updates for both models, and we will go over each one in the following paragraphs.
The Civic Type R Limited Edition will add a brand-new Phoenix Yellow color (also known as Sunlight Yellow). Also, the US version will be 46 pounds lighter than the regular model, with a tuned chassis.
2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition Changes
For the 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition, there will be two types of changes: One for the US version model, and the other for the European variant. They are slightly different, so we will try to avoid any kind of confusion. Let’s start with the American model.
The Japanese automaker claims that it will be 46 pounds lighter (20.9 kg), thanks to the brand-new lightweight BBS wheels. This was possible with the removal of the features such as the rear wiper, rear heater ducts, and tonneau cover. Also, Honda reduced sound-deadening materials as well.
On the other hand, the European variant will reduce the weight for 103.5 pounds (47 kg). What is even more impressive, it will keep the rear seats, unlike many of the track-focused hatches. However, the Euro model won’t include the comfort features, like the infotainment and air-conditioning system. Both versions will get an updated chassis, with specially tuned dampers, and the improved steering.
As a result, the control will be far better as well as the feedback. With these changes, 2021 Civic Type R will be the most dynamic front-wheel drive hatchback on the market. Besides, the unique yellow color and the dark chrome badges will establish recognizable styling.
Moreover, a contrasting gloss black paint on the roof, intake vent on the hood, and wing mirrors will add to the very attractive look of the Type R. Still, the company didn’t provide info about the cabin. However, we expect to see the same red buckets seats, with red Alcantara steering wheel, and the teardrop gear knob on the Euro variant.
Engine and Release Date
Under the hood of 2021 Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition, there will be no changes. The hatchback will use the same 2.0-liter direct-injected turbocharged 4-cylinder powertrain with VTEC. The total output of this mill is 306 hp and 295 lb/ft of torque. For the European version, it will be 320 PS and 400 Nm.
The engine will be mated to a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential sending power to the front wheels. So, when the Type R Limited Edition will be available? Well, the customers will have to wait until the summer. The deliveries will start at the same time, on both sides of the Atlantic. Also, the price will be revealed just before the release.
