The refreshed 2020 Honda Civic Type R will make a debut on the ongoing Chicago Auto Show. Also, the Japanese company will present a new high-performance Civic with the unique Boost Blue color, and upgraded suspension and refined brakes. Last month we had a chance to see the world premiere of Civic Type R at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
But, this will be the first time that the refreshed 2020MY comes to the US audience. The changes and improvements are numerous. The design language is more appealing, handling and braking are better as well, ad the engine cooling. On top of that, the Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive technologies will be part of the standard equipment for the 2020 Civic Type R.
2020 Honda Civic Type R Changes
2020 Honda Civic Type R introduces brand-new two-piece brake rotors, alongside new brake pads which are designed to reduce fade. Also, these features will enhance the high-speed braking efficiency. Moreover, the suspension updates on the 2020 Type R delivers refined dampers, for better ride comfort.
The better grip is provided by a stiffer rear bushing, while the high-quality steering is improved even further with a revised front suspension. On top of that, the grille is refreshed as well, to ensure better engine cooling under high demand.
Interior
As for the cabin, Civic Type R will include Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, a brand-new shifter with a redesigned knob, and shorter shift throws. As we mentioned above, every model will consist of Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assistive tech. But, the most noticeable feature will be a large, bright letter H on the steering wheel.
Besides, the outstanding level of comfort, the focal point of the cabin will be a 7-inch display with navigation. Besides the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integrations, a 12-speaker premium audio system, Bluetooth compatibility, and USB inputs will be part of the standard equipment.
One of the most exciting features is the available drive-mode, which includes track-ready +R mode, and gauge-cluster, which changes with the selected mode. Furthermore, the power-adjusting heavy-bolstered front seats and dual-zone climate control will provide a high level of comfort.
2020 Honda Civic Type R Engine Specs and Price
2020 Civic Type R uses a race-bred 2.0-liter direct-injected, turbocharged 4-cylinder VTEC powertrain. This unit produced 306 hp and 296 lb-ft of torque. The power goes to front wheels through a close-ratio 6-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Also, there will be three driving modes available to drivers: Comfort, Sport, and +R. The +R alter suspension stability, steering, and throttle response.
Moreover, a new feature is Active Sound Contol, which adjusts the cabin sound in harmony with the chosen drive mode. Furthermore, the selectable drive modes and advanced design will provide excellent driving experience, both mountain road, urban city streets, or on a racetrack.
