Honda’s super-popular compact SUV has just been redesigned. The new generation has brought various improvements in different aspects, even though a big portion of the changes was rather evolutionary. That was quite expected, especially if we consider that the previous generation was not just very successful, but also praised by the critics. However, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer already prepares some updates for the future, already for the third production year, for the 2025 Honda CR-V.
Allegedly, the company prepares big changes under the hood. Some sources speculate about the new transmission, which would replace the current CVT. There are also reports about the new, plug-in hybrid version, which would come with more power and better efficiency than current powertrains. On the other hand, the overall design would remain the same, though we wouldn’t exclude the possibility to see novelties in terms of new standard equipment, or new color options.
In any case, the 2025 Honda CR-V should arrive sometime in the second half of 2024.
2025 Honda CR-V New Transmission and PHEV
As we’ve just mentioned, the new generation has just arrived and we can hear speculations about changes and novelties. One of the refers to the new transmission. According to some sources, Honda is working on the new 10-speed automatic gearbox, which would replace the current CVT. It’s still unclear whether the new automatic would be used for the gasoline version only, or we could see it in the Hybrid as well. Our guess is that it would be offered only in paired with the turbo-four and that it would provide better fuel economy, quicker acceleration and improve the driving experience.
Also, some sources speculate about further electrification. According to these reports, we are about to see a plug-in hybrid, which would be the most powerful powertrain option on offer. Although rumors are still unclear, it is believed that this system could be based on a 2.0-liter turbo-four and that it could offer a max output of more than 300 horsepower.
On the other hand, the rest of the powertrain lineup would continue in the same way. We would see the base 1.5-liter turbo-four with the new transmission, but with the same max output that goes around 190 horsepower. On the other hand, the hybrid version would also continue in the same way, with the system that offers a combined output of 204 horsepower.
2025 Honda CR-V Design
Despite the potential updates under the hood, the overall design of the 2025 Honda CR-V shouldn’t be much different. Simply, this is still a very fresh model and this will be the third production year of the generation. For that reason, major updates are not expected, but we could see things like new color options. The overall appearance will remain the same, with the styling that now looks more elegant and more mature.
The same thing is with the interior design, which brings a new dashboard design with a more elegant look and further improvements regarding materials. The build quality is very good, while the ergonomics are even better. There is also a good number of tech features, which make everything look even better.
The new generation is slightly bigger than the previous one, which is reflected in passenger space as well. There are two very comfortable rows of seats, with plenty of leg and headroom to accommodate five adults with ease. Simply, there is no bad seat in this SUV, and the cargo area is also pretty impressive, with 39.3 cubic feet of space behind the second row and 76.5 cubic feet. A power liftgate is available.
Features
Novelties in this aspect are always possible, so the 2025 Honda CR-V could come with some of them as well. Still, we believe that most things will remain the same as in the current model. So, the list of standard equipment should include goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, two USB ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, remote keyless entry and a moonroof.
Among upgrades, expect to find a 9-inch touch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, two second-row USB ports, wireless device charging, an eight-speaker audio system, a universal garage-door opener etc.
When it comes to safety, all models should come standard with things like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, automatic high beams etc.
2025 Honda CR-V Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2025 Honda CR-V will arrive sometime in the second half of 2024, with the starting price slightly under 30.000 dollars. Of course, key competitors will remain the same, in the form of Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, Subaru Forester etc.
