2022 Honda CR-V Special Edition Review, Changes, Release Date and Price

Honda recently released a new trim level called Special Edition. Reportedly, this trim will be available on the Honda CR-V, Pilot, and Accord models. The first photos of the upcoming 2022 Honda CR-V Special Edition are available, and it looks almost identical to the higher-spec Touring trim.

Unfortunately, the new trim won’t receive a hybrid powertrain, which is available on the CR-V EX, EX-L, and Touring models. Instead, the Special Edition trim will only get a proven 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that is capable of producing 190 horsepower (142 kilowatts). Here’s everything that know so far about the upcoming Honda’s CR-V Special Edition.

2022 Honda CR-V Special Edition First Impressions

This isn’t the first time that we saw Special Edition trim. The Pilot and Accord are models that receive the same treatments. Despite sharing the same name, the CR-V Special Edition is much more different when it comes to optional extras. Thanks to the mentioned package, the new CR-V looks more attractive than ever.

Basically, this trim brings more premium features like the 19-inch black-chrome wheels, front and rear skid garnishes, and a foot-activated hands-free access power tailgate. Unlike the regular model, the grille on the SE model looks more attractive, thanks to a mix of chrome and black accents. Overall, we like the new styling, and the Special Edition worth every penny.

Interior Features

On the inside, the latest 2022 Honda CR-V Special Edition looks no different than the regular model. Its cabin is modern and is very roomy to fit all the passengers comfortably. Honda stated that SE would include leather upholstery, an 8.0-inch display, an eight-speaker sound system, sporty pedals, a 12-way adjustable driver’s seat, and smartphone compatibility.

Besides, there are still a few reasons to upgrade to EX trim that cost a little more than the Special Edition. This trim adds Blind-spot monitoring, a moonroof, a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, satellite radio, an HD radio, second-row charging ports, and a Honda Sensing Suite. However, if you can live without blind-spot monitoring, then the Special Edition is still a better value.

As we mentioned, the new trim level won’t receive the hybrid powertrains as the other models like the CR-V EX, EX-L, and Touring. Instead, it should only come with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 190 horsepower (142 kilowatts).

According to the manufacturer, this engine sends power through a continuously variable automatic transmission, and it uses a front-wheel-drive as standard. However, we don’t have information if the all-wheel-drive will be on the offer as optional.

Price, Release Date

The all-new 2022 Honda CR-V Special Edition should start at $28,000, which is more than the regular model. Generally speaking, for an extra $1,200, the new Special Edition is a great value option and is a worthy upgrade.

Comparable vehicles that are in the pricing range are Hyundai Tucson ($26,000), Mazda CX-5 ($26,500), and Subaru Forester ($25,900). The CR-V Special Edition will join Pilot and Accord models later in the year.
