After spy shots that were taken in June, the new 2022 Honda Civic Type R has been finally unveiled. The upcoming model is wearing more attractive styling than the regular one. Honda also confirmed that the next Civic would be available as a sedan, hatchback, Si, and Type R models.
The Type R is one of favorite hot hatches on the market. This model, besides more juvenile look, also comes with a more powerful powertrain. It’s expected to be powered by a potent turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making more power than the standard one.
2022 Honda Civic Type R Looks Sporty and Modern
The recently revealed 2022 Honda Civic Type R looks sporty and modern. Unlike the standard model, this high-performance model is easy to spot, because it comes with some modifications. Honda makes a more aggressive front that stand out from the rest, but not so much that it’s offensive. First of all, it features beautifully shaped LED headlights and a sporty hood with a horizontal opening for better cooling. Also, it wears a red “R” badge and attractive 20-inch wheels.
Besides, a more distinctive look is on the rear end, with the new C-shaped taillight and high-mounted spoiler. We also noticed a new oversized fake vent on the rear bumper and the sporty dual exhaust outlets. As you can see, this model has borrowed many design cues from the famous Accord.
Type R To Features a New 9.0-Inch Central Touchscreen
The 2022 Honda Civic Type R will differ in many things from the regular one. Unlike before, we can expect the interior to be more upscale. The new high-performance model will be adorned with fake carbon fiber, red trim, and other hard plastics. Also, we should expect a new digital gauge cluster along with a 9.0-inch central touchscreen. On top of that, more features will be available.
Civic Type R should also come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. However, the Type R dashboard might be sleeker compared to the base model, providing more soft touches. The cabin also offers more comfort, and the trunk space of the standard sedan is 15.1 cubic feet. The Civic Hatchback also does well, providing almost 25.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats. However, folded down back seats, it opens 46.2 cubic feet, which is excellent.
2022 Honda Civic Type R Powertrain Specs
The new Civic Type R will be most likely powered by the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that delivers 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
The engine sends power to the front wheels through a standard six-speed manual transmission. However, there have been many rumors about a hybrid all-wheel-drive powertrain, but we think it’s unlikely to happen in 2022MY.
Price and Release Date
The refreshed 2022 Honda Civic will arrive late next spring, and we could see the Type R by the end of the year.
However, many gossips indicate that Type R might debut in early 2022. Expect pricing to rise slightly compared to the current model that costs $38,450. Moreover, we think that the new one will stay just under $40,000.
