Acura has exciting news for all the fans of the NSX model. The next sports version could finally get the long-awaited “Type R” treatment. The 2022 Acura NSX Type R has been rumored numerous times, and the manufacture always tried to put a damper on speculation.
However, the new NSX Type R from the latest news will be most likely ready to introduce in October. Generally, some of the renderings are available, and this supercar looks more aggressive than any model in its class. The report also says that it will be powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter generating about 641 hp, through three electric motors. Compared to the regular NSX model, that’s about 70 hp more, which is great.
2022 Acura NSX Type R Exterior
The new renderings reveal that the 2022 Acura NSX Type R is sitting lower than the base model. Generally, its front fascia looks more aggressive with plenty of gloss-black trim and painted grille garnish. Interestingly, the hood looks sporty, and Acura added two openings, each on both sides, for better engine cooling. Overall, the design is purely artistic, thanks to many curving lines and flared wheel arches.
Acura also made this model more aerodynamic, thanks to the use of a steel-and-aluminum body. Basically, the NSX Type R body allows airflow, resulting in excellent high-speed stability.
As the base version, the Acura NSX Type R will offer the same seating layout. Also, there’s a hint of heritage from the original NSX. So, expect very sporty seats dressed in full Milano leather or Alcantara, probably with a Type R stitched logo in the middle.
Generally, unlike the standard NSX, we should expect Type R to feature a more sporty steering wheel and probably the last-generation Acura infotainment system. Also, the standard package should include ELS audio system, navigation, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, heated seats, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay apps, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth phone/streaming audio, keyless smart-entry/smart-start, and much more.
2022 Acura NSX Type R Engine Specs and Performance
According to the latest news, the upcoming 2022 Acura NSX Type R should deploy the same engine as the regular one. However, under the Type R model, this engine will be modified. The twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine is a hybrid powertrain paired with three electric motors.
However, unlike the regular model that generates 573 horses, this engine under the Type R model generates 641 hp. On top of that, Acura will most likely use a proven 9-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Launch Date and Price
The introduction of the new Acura NSX Type R will be most likely to happen later this year. Many believe that October is the month when the manufacturer will showcase this sports car alongside the NSX Spider version.
While the standard 2022 Acura NSX starts off at $157,500 and is currently the most expensive new car in the United States, we think that NSX Type R would easily pass the $200K mark. Just for comparison, the Lamborghini Huracan and the Ferrari 488 GTB cost little less than $200,000. However, the BMW i8 starts closer to $150,000.
