The long-awaited 2021 Honda Odyssey Type R might finally happen next year. Naturally, the upcoming minivan will feature almost the same design language as the Civic Type R.
Some of the Type R renderings are available, and we must admit this model promises. With the gloss black grille and the red Type R emblem, this minivan looks sporty and aggressive. On top of that, it comes with a very spacious cabin featuring upscale materials and the latest technology.
2021 Honda Odyssey Type R Exterior
The new renderings reveal the Type R Odyssey rocks out the same styling as the Civic Type R. This includes a gloss black grille and the red Honda emblem that sits in the right corner. It also features big vents in the corners serving as home to the big fog lamps. The hood is not changed at all, and the spoiler up front complete the look of this minivan.
Moving to the sides, we can also see some updates. Type R model includes new side skirts with a red stripe and black door handles. The most exciting part is on the back of this minivan. Odyssey Type R comes with the same spoiler that we saw on the Civic Type R, and it uses a triple exhaust outlet. Overall, the design looks pretty mean, we must admit.
Inside, the long-waited 2021 Honda Odyssey Type R will feature more upscale materials and techs than the regular model. From what we heard, the manufacturer will make some drastic changes. First of all, the instrument cluster and the infotainment display will be updated with better graphics, and we can expect minor modifications to the dash. Generally, the Odyssey Type R will probably borrow many cues from Civic Type R model.
From rendering photos, we can see that dash is adorned with black leather and red piping. The steering wheel also looks sporty and comfy with the Type R red emblem sitting in the bottom half. On top of that, Type R replaces the standard seats with more sporty up front. The third row is unchanged and features the same amount of support, as seen in the standard model. However, this time is wrapped in red and black leather featuring the Type R logo.
2021 Honda Odyssey Type R Powertrain Specs
We don’t know what powertrain will power the upcoming 2021 Honda Odyssey Type R. Most likely, that it will use the same engine that we saw under the Acura NSX. That means we might see the same 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 delivering outstanding performance.
From some rumors, this powertrain will be detuned to produce 445 horsepower and 373 pound-feet of twist. Moreover, under the NSX model, the same engine produces 573 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. In addition, some experts calculate that with this drivetrain and output, the new minivan could sprint from 0 to 60-mph sprint in a matter of 4.1 seconds, while top speed might be insane 186 mph.
