The latest 2021 Acura NSX is one of the hottest sports cars on the planet. However, according to a report published today, the new model may get a more aggressive version soon. Three years are pass since Acura launched its supercar and now NSX might finally get the “Type R” suffix on the front grille. According to many speculations, the high-performance model may be introduced in October this year at the Tokyo Motor Show. On top of that, we got information that Acura NSX Type R will use a more potent engine that will deliver no less than 650 horses. If we compare this number with the specs of the regular model, it’s a jump of over 77 horses.
The new renderings appear and the upcoming Acura NSX Type R promises. Design is more aggressive and we are assuming the same story to continue inside.
Acura NSX Type R Looks More Sporty Than the Regular Model
The renderings of Acura NSX Type R emerged and this model looks fantastic. Acura did a great job and we like this new design language. The design will differ from the regular model and the Acura NSX Type R will allegedly receive modified bodywork.
With that, we mean it will bring more sporty lines, stiffer suspension setup and we will be glad to see larger carbon-ceramic brakes. As we can see from the rendering photos, the manufacturer adds the same front splitter that is present on the NSX-GT race car along with a rear wing. Also, the NSX wears the new P245/35R19 performance rubber up front wheels and P305/30R20 boots in the rear.
Acura NSX Type R Will Host Sporty Cabin
Unlike the regular NSX model, the high-performance Type R will use more techs and upscale materials. On top of that, expect many Type R badging inside and plenty of red accents. According to many reports, the forthcoming model will get a new sport seat (available in full Milano leather or semi-aniline leather and Alcantara).
Besides, expect navigation, dual-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, heated side mirrors, cruise control, heated seats, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay apps, Siri Eyes Free, Bluetooth phone/streaming audio, proximity sensors, keyless smart-entry/smart-start, Active Sound Control and more standard equipment.
Powertrain Specs
In terms of engine specs, the NSX Type R will use a mighty engine, for sure. There are a few possibilities. The all-new model might either get a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 or by tinkering with the three electric motors. There’s also the possibility that both V6 and electric motors will be tweaked to extract more power.
Interestingly, officials recently reveal that this model could bump the output of 650 horsepower. If that news is is accurate, the high-performance Type R model will gain an additional 77 hp over the standard NSX. At this moment, there is no speculation about its torque. Although, we expected some increase over the current 476 pound-feet (645 Newton-meters). It’s not clear if this model will use the same SH-AWD system that can be found in the Type R version of Accord.
Acura NSX Type R Release Date and Cost
The release date of NSX Type R might happens in October this year. If you remember, the Acura NSX starts off at $157,500 and is currently the most expensive model in Acura`s line. In the same class is the Mercedes-Maybach GLS that costs vertigo $200,000. Coincidentally, many rumors indicate that the new NSX Type R is also expected to hit the $200K mark.
I’ve been waiting for more than three years for this new Acura NSX Type R model. Very excited to hear that it will finally make it’s appearance this fall as a 2021 model. I pray that it’s available in the multitude of colors (exterior/interiors) the base NSX offers. Just five more months and my dream will finally become reality. I’m happy that I chose to wait on purchasing the standard NSX.
