2021 Acura CDX Changes, Engine Specs and Hybrid

The upcoming 2021 Acura CDX is the latest add-on to the Honda’s luxury branch. The small crossover will be available in the States in the last quartal of the year. So far, the CDX is available only on the Chinese market, where it comes in hybrid version as well. Both of the crossover version,s the regular and the hybrid will debut on the markets worldwide. As for the size, the new model will be smaller than the compact RDX. However, it won’t be part f the subcompact class.

Furthermore, this model will borrow some features from the siblings that are known on the US market – RDX and MDX. For example, the infotainment system and safety suite will be shared among these vehicles. Still, the CDX crossover will add a unique touch, to make its style more recognizable.

2021 Acura CDX Changes

The forthcoming 2021 Acura CDX will bring a couple of changes, especially for the US market. The appearance will be slightly different than the previous model. Acura will try to draw new customers with a more appealing design language and unique details. But, there are numerous rivals in the segment. Therefore, the upcoming CDX comes as an underdog in the competition.

Let’s mention the Lexus NX or Infiniti QX30, and you’ll get it how hard it will be for the Acura’s crossover. But, the Japanese company won’t leave the field without battle, that’s for sure. So, expect that the cabin will be very driver-oriented, with tech updates and a lot of high-quality materials. Also, the exterior design will be refined and more attractive.

All in all, the CDX will be a good alternative if you want a safe and reliable vehicle. However, the dimensions will stay the same as in the previous version. The wheelbase will be 105 inches long, 3 inches shorter than the RDX. The overall length is 174 inches, which makes this model the smallest one in the lineup.

Engine Specs, Hybrid

Under the hood of 2021 Acura CDX will be the engine that perfectly fits in the class and crossover purposes. It is a 1.5-liter powertrain that generates 180 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. This mill will be paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The same engine will be available in all CDX version, US model included. As for the fuel economy, upcoming CDX will be a true fuel-saver.

Sure, it will add at least 3-4 mpg in comparison to the larger RDX. Still, that rating might easily be good enough for the first place in the segment. But, that’s not all from the Acura. According to the reports from the automaker, 2021 CDX will get a hybrid variant as well.

The electric setup will provide more power, and it will boost the mileage at the same time. We assume that it will be a 1.5-liter engine plus two electrical motors setup. In that case, the CDX will be able to return around 33 mpg.

2021 Acura CDX Release Date and Price

Taking into account the starting prices of larger vehicles from Acura’s lineup, we expect that the 2021 CDX will start around $32,000. The crossover closest sibling, the RDX, starts at $39,000.

The main rival in the similar price range will be Lexus UX 200, which starts just above $32,000. The release date is still unknown, but we assume that the crossover will be ready for the US market before the winter of 2020.
